Nottingham City Council is in positive and constructive discussions with Notts County Football Club to organise a celebratory summer event to promote the club’s first season back in the English Football League.
The Magpies emerged victorious from a dramatic Vanarama National League play-off campaign last week, ending their four-year absence from the EFL with a penalty shootout victory over Chesterfield in front of 22,500 jubilant supporters at Wembley.
Whilst it was not possible to offer a civic reception to celebrate the victory this week, the council has been in regular contact with the club and partners to discuss options. These conversations are ongoing and details will be confirmed in due course.
Cllr David Mellen, Leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “We’re delighted with Notts County’s promotion back into the EFL and understand fans’ disappointment that we weren’t able to put on a civic event this week.
“A pre-season event gives us more time to look again at funding options, including contributions from partners who are keen to support a city celebration of Notts’ fantastic achievement. This will help towards the cost of full event management, security and safety.
“We’d like to thank the club for being receptive to our ideas and look forward to providing them with the event they, their fans and players deserve.”
