Nottingham City Council’s free-swimming programme for under-16s returns for the October half-term holiday after a successful summer launch. Backed by £197,000 of investment, the programme will give more children and young people across the city the chance to enjoy swimming for free from Sunday 18 October to Sunday 1 November 2026.

Free, structured public swimming sessions will be available at all six Active Nottingham leisure centres operated by Nottingham City Council: Clifton, Djanogly, Harvey Hadden Sports Village, Ken Martin, Southglade and Victoria Leisure Centre.

Session times will vary by centre, with weekend sessions available at selected leisure centres. Support is also available for children who are non-swimmers or lack confidence in the water.

The scheme is open to school-age children under 16 who live in Nottingham city. In line with the Pool Admission Policy, children under eight must be accompanied by a responsible adult or someone aged 16 or over, who can attend at no cost.

Cllr David Mellen, Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “The free-swimming programme was a real success over the summer, giving children and young people across Nottingham the opportunity to enjoy the water, stay active and build their confidence.

“I am delighted that it is returning for October half term, with free sessions available across our six Active Nottingham leisure centres. I would encourage Nottingham City families to book a session and get involved.”

Families can view session times, eligibility information and booking guidance on Active Nottingham’s website, through the Active Nottingham app or by visiting an Active Nottingham leisure centre.

The programme forms part of Nottingham City Council’s wider work to support children and young people in being active, healthy and safe, whilst reducing inequalities across communities.
