Daytime tram tests today (Thursday) began to run through to Beeston Town Centre as the commissioning programme for Nottingham’s expanded tram network gathers pace.

The new tram line through Beeston has been undergoing night-time tests for several weeks and this part of the commissioning works has now been completed successfully.

It means that daytime trials, which have so far been running up to the end of University Boulevard, can now be further extended and Councillor Jane Urquhart, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transportation at Nottingham City Council, said: “For the contractor to be able to do the first daytime testing through to Beeston Town Centre demonstrates intensive testing of the NET system.

“Successful tests will go a long way to confirming that the extended network will soon be available for public service, and I’m sure seeing trams being tested into the very heart of Beeston Town Centre will be a big milestone for the people of Beeston and Chilwell.”
