The Robin Hood Pageant, due to take place at Nottingham Castle this weekend, has had to be rescheduled due to the high winds forecast when a storm hits the country on Saturday.

A large part of the Pageant takes place around a tented village among the numerous trees in the Castle grounds. Therefore it has been decided that the storm and the damage it could cause poses too much of a risk to people attending the event, particularly families with children.

Due to the Castle’s elevated and exposed position, it is standard practice for parts of the grounds to be closed where high winds are predicted.  An assessment of the latest weather forecasts shows winds of up to 46mph are expected on Saturday.

The Pageant has been rescheduled for the weekend of 10 / 11 March 2018 at Nottingham Castle. Tickets already purchased will still be valid for the rearranged event, however people who are unable to make the revised dates can apply for a refund from the point of purchase.

A City Council spokesperson said: “We’re really disappointed that we’ve had to reschedule this year’s Pageant.  It’s not a decision we’ve taken lightly but we can’t take any risks particularly where the safety of families and children is concerned. The rescheduled Pageant next Spring will still be fantastic event and we look forward to seeing everyone there.”

The Council is advising people using the city’s parks over the weekend to take particular care in areas with trees. An assessment is being carried out to decide if any parks need to be temporarily closed as has happened previously in high winds.
