Following earlier works in June, final improvements to the Hucknall Road/Valley Road roundabout are set to be completed.
As the Ring Road has less traffic using it in the school summer holidays and works currently taking place at Crown Island are further reducing traffic volume, this is a good time to complete the works at Hucknall Road/Valley Road roundabout.
These are the latest works taking place as part of the £16.2m Ring Road project to reduce congestion and delays and improve journey time reliability. The works are upgrading and redesigning key junctions, widening sections of the carriageway and providing better facilities for businesses, pedestrians and cyclists.
Preparatory works on Hucknall Road/Valley Road roundabout will start on 10th August and will take place between Monday and Friday during off-peak hours (9.30am -3.30pm) on the ‘arms’ of the roundabout. Lane restrictions will be required on all approaches. From 7pm to 11pm, Hucknall Road will be closed at its junction with Valley Road. Well-signed diversion routes will be in place for alternative routes for access to and from the Ring Road and for traffic travelling along Hucknall Road.
From 7pm on 21st August to 6am on 24th August 2015, the roundabout will be completely closed to all traffic to allow the final surfacing works to take place.
Councillor Nick McDonald, Portfolio Holder for Jobs, Growth and Transport at Nottingham City Council, said: “The Ring Road works are essential for the city. It is Nottingham’s busiest route used by around 50,000 residents, visitors and businesses every day. These works are an important part of the overall plan. We have timed them to take place now because we know that there is less traffic during the summer months and so the works will have less impact on people’s travel plans.
“However, it’s likely that delays will occur so please allow longer for your journey and use alternative routes whenever possible. We will provide regular updates in the media, through the dedicated web site and social media. I’d like to thank residents, motorists and businesses in advance for their continued patience with the works, which will be very worthwhile when complete.”
