The opening of Nottingham’s expanded tram network is getting close.

Councillor Jane Urquhart, with lead responsibility for NET at Nottingham City Council, said: “The final stages of timetable trials have been going extremely well and, as a result, we are only a matter of days from being able to confirm an opening date. We are intending to make a further announcement on Monday.

“The timetable tests are an essential part of the commissioning programme. We need to ensure we are able to operate a wholly reliable service and, once this stage is passed, we can open the network up to passenger services.

“It’s the start of an exciting future for the network and we want as many people as possible to see the advantages a frequent and reliable cross-city transport service will bring.”

Meanwhile, NET has announced a special ‘try the new network’ ticket offer which both existing and new customers can take advantage of.

Marketing Manager Jamie Swift said: “For the first week after we open, people will be able to buy one week’s unlimited travel for just £10. The new lines are a fantastic addition to Nottingham’s public transport offer and we want people to give the service a try.

“For our existing customers, it’s also a low-cost way of introducing them to the new lines and destinations we’ll be serving.”
