Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning, Housing and Heritage, Councillor Jane Urquhart, said: “Our thoughts are with those affected by this terrible incident in London. The flags on the Castle and the Council House are being flown at half-mast in a mark of respect and commemoration of those who have sadly lost their lives.

“We have also a book of condolence at the Council House, so people can share their thoughts if they wish. We are also encouraging local people who wish to support those affected by the tragedy to donate to the Kensington and Chelsea Foundation fund at https://thekandcfoundation.com/

“This tragedy has understandably led to questions about safety measures in high rise flats around the country and we would like to reassure people that safety measures in housing managed on our behalf by Nottingham City Homes are strictly in line with advice from the fire service, who we are in ongoing discussion with to ensure our safety features and procedures are up to date.

“We have been working with our partners to make sure our tower blocks are as safe as they can be. Nottingham City Homes will be providing residents in high rise blocks with information and safety reminders and will urgently advise them if there are lessons to be learnt or changes to be made following this tragic incident.”
