Three extra Nottingham parks have gained Green Flag Awards this year – bringing the total of parks reaching the nationally-recognised standard in the city to 56.
Thirty two parks in Nottingham have been recognised by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy as amongst the very best in the UK, along with the city gaining 18 Community Awards including Hedley Villas in Sherwood Rise and STOP @ King Edwards Park plus three Green Heritage awards at the Arboretum, the Forest Recreation Ground and Wollaton Park and three University Green Flags.
The three additional parks which secured their Green Flag status this year are:
• Clifton Central ‘Flower’ Park
• Southglade Park
• Pirate Park, Sherwood
This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
All the flags flying this year are a testament to the huge efforts of both staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.
The announcement of this year’s Award winners comes in the same week that thousands of people up and down the country are enjoying Love Parks Week (14 – 22 July), an annual celebration of Britain’s fantastic green spaces and the community groups that bring them to life.
Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded total of 32 Green Flag Awards this year, from Keep Britain Tidy. This Award recognises and highlights the value we put on our parks and green spaces, they are such an important part of people’s lives and well-being in Nottingham. It is fantastic that Nottingham City Council’s investment in parks has been recognised with these accolades.”

Any green space that is accessible to the public is eligible to enter for a Green Flag Award. Awards are given on an annual basis and winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag status. A Green Flag Community Award recognises quality sites managed by voluntary and community groups. Green Heritage Site accreditation is judged on the treatment of the site’s historic features and the standard of conservation.
