The council will make pads and tampons available at 24 locations across the city, thanks to additional funding.
Rollout of the dispensers began in early August and should be completed by the end of September. They can be found in the toilet areas of the selected buildings, for residents and visitors to take what they need.
The initiative forms part of Nottingham City Council’s wider £7.6 million programme of investment into frontline services, focused on supporting residents and communities with the cost of living and improving access to help where it is needed most.
Period poverty affects many women, girls and people who menstruate. Access to menstrual products, safe, hygienic spaces in which to use them, and the right to manage menstruation without shame or stigma, is essential for anyone who menstruates.
Councillor Helen Kalsi, Executive Member for Adults, Social Care, and Public Health, said:
“I’m very pleased to be able to announce this scheme. I hope it will make a real difference for _people who menstruate in Nottingham to know they will have free access to period products at buildings across the city.
“Period poverty is a serious issue and I’m proud that as a council, we’re doing our part to tackle it.”
