Representatives from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) are visiting Nottingham this week to share best practice on building safety with Nottingham City Council.
Senior Building Safety staff from NIHE and the council will meet to tour some of Nottingham’s 13 council-owned high rises and share best practice in building safety and resident engagement.
Following the Grenfell tragedy in June 2017, Nottingham City Council was one of the first local authorities to take action, delivering an £8.4 million programme of sprinkler installations and other safety measures in its high rises and working with residents to make sure their concerns were addressed.
The council also carried out a comprehensive review of fire safety in partnership with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Matt Woods, Nottingham City Council’s Building Safety Manager, said: “I’m a big believer in collaborative working, both in the city with, for example, our emergency services partners, and in a wider context. I’m looking forward to the NIHE delegation arriving here in Nottingham, and discussing the similarities and differences in our approach to keeping people safe in their homes.”
David Adamson, NIHE’s Senior Building Safety Manager, said: “We are looking forward to meeting and collaborating with the Nottingham City Council team and discussing the lessons learned from their approach to resident safety in their high-rise residential buildings.”
