The Leader of Nottingham City Council has described the death of Mariam Moustafa as a “tragedy”.

Councillor Jon Collins said: “The death of Mariam Moustafa and the circumstances of it are shocking. Those responsible for the alleged assault reported last month need to be brought to justice.

“The Police have said there is no information to suggest that the assault was motivated by hate but that they are keeping an open mind. Therefore it’s important people don’t jump to conclusions without evidence that can only come after the Police have had a chance to finish their investigation.

“Mariam’s death is a tragedy and our thoughts are with her family and friends at what must be a terrible time for them. The Council is on hand to provide support and assistance both to the family and the wider community.“

Anyone with any information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 335 of 21 February 2018, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
