A brand new sensory room will open to the public at John Carroll Leisure Centre in Radford on Monday 30 November.
The room is decorated with bubble tubes, moving lighting, mirrors, soft play equipment and beanbag seating, with music playing to stimulate the senses. A projector gives the image of an underwater scene. The room has a maximum capacity of 16 people, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages, but is particularly effective for children with learning disabilities and toddlers, helping them to relax and enjoy the gentle stimulation of lights and music.
John Carroll centre manager, Thomas Nelson said: “The sensory room can be used by adults or children – it’s available for anyone to book, whether in groups or for one-to-one sessions. We welcome customers to come down to John Carroll Leisure Centre and take a look.”
New soft play facilities with a ‘pirates and princesses’ theme will be opened at Clifton Leisure Centre on 4 January 2016. The soft play area is named ‘Little Treasures’ – the name was selected through a customer competition, with the winner being given a free party at the centre. The soft play area is suitable for children aged six months to 12 years old, and prices start from £2.50 per session (for Citycard holders). Customers will be able to enjoy public play sessions throughout the day, as well as being able to hire the facility for children’s parties, along with an additional party room.
Cllr Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture says: “We continue to invest in our leisure centres so that we can provide high quality new facilities like these for customers to enjoy. The new sensory room at John Carroll Leisure Centre and the new soft play area at Clifton Leisure Centre are both great areas to entertain kids in a fun, safe environment.”
