Edna Cohen received a bouquet of flowers along with her Meal at Home today – in celebration of her reaching the grand old age of 104.

Edna, of Owthorpe Grove, Sherwood, has been receiving Nottingham City Council’s Meals at Home service since 2007. And her daughter June Baines – a mere 86 years old – has also been a Meals at Home customer at her home in Forest Road East for three years, and joined her mum with other family members to celebrate her birthday. The team who delivers her meal presented her with a bouquet to mark the special occasion.

Having worked in The Station café on Huntingdon Street for many years, Edna appreciates the effort that goes into preparing tasty meals. She tucked into a fish dinner and lemon bakewell for her birthday lunch. Edna and June are very happy with the service – in fact June puts her mother’s long life down to her cheery outlook.

“Mum’s always been a happy person, she always looks on the bright side and is always cheerful,” she said.

Nottingham City Council delivers over 150,000 hot meals a year, operating every day including Sundays. As well as providing a daily hot meal there are deliveries of afternoon tea or frozen meals. More importantly, the service ensures a visit and contact with someone for those who might otherwise go all day without seeing anyone.
