Tuesday the 5th December will see 180 students from across the city of Nottingham come together to experience a variety of interactive digital activities. The Digital Skills Show will take place between 9.00am-3.00pm at The National Videogame Arcade. It is aimed at year 7 and 8 students to generate interest, excitement and awareness of digital careers.
Employers supporting the delivery of the event include Sumo Digital, Art Systems, Mulitverses and Morgan Sindall.
- ArtSystems will be demonstrating 3D printing to students who will also assemble a product out of 3D printed components
- Sumo Digital will talk about careers in Gaming and will utilise the Mission Control equipment at the National Videogame Arcade
- Morgan Sindall and their supply partner Mission Rooms will introduce Business Modelling Information (BMI) Technology and 360 digital capture technology
- Multiverses will be showcasing the latest in Virtual Reality (VR) technology
Students will gain inspiration from sector experts from a range of industries. Along with practical workshops they will receive valuable insight into careers available in the sector.
The event is organised by Aspire. Aspire is a brokerage service between Nottingham City schools and employers to encourage pupils to think differently about careers. This is a joint partnership between Nottingham City Council and Futures Advice, Skills & Employment.
Councillor Sam Webster, Portfolio Holder for Business, Education and Skills at Nottingham City Council, said; “It’s important that school pupils learn as much as possible about the types of skills which will be needed when they enter the world of work. Digital skills and job roles in the digital, I.T and technology sectors are already significant and will only grow as business sectors.
We want to see all young in Nottingham make a successful transition from education into work or further education and this event, which is supported by Aspire and Nottingham City Council, will give them real opportunities to understand more about digital skills and engage with local employers face to face.
Nottingham is a city which is seeing strong growth in sectors which rely upon technology and digital skills. Projects like this which give pupils hands on experience and practical advice go a long way to ensuring Nottingham continues to develop as a hub for digital businesses and that young people grow up with the skills needed to contribute and make the most of future opportunities.”
