The Leader of Nottingham City Council has called for the Government to introduce mandatory minimum prison sentences for knife crime following a fatal assault on Woodborough Road, Nottingham, on Friday.

Councillor Jon Collins said: “Sadly, knife crime is a national issue which is becoming an increasing problem in towns and cities right across the country. Just last week, the Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police highlighted an increase in young people carrying knives in London following a number of recent incidents there.

“I believe the Government needs to seriously consider the introduction of mandatory minimum prison sentences for knife crime which is the way gun crime has been tackled.”
