Nottingham City Council is joining forces with homecare providers across the city to help recruit people to provide much needed support to vulnerable residents in our communities.
Local homecare providers have open positions in homecare available now, with full pay, flexible hours and training and opportunities for people to progress their career within the sector.
The recruitment drive is essential to the city’s efforts to support people in their own homes during autumn and winter – especially those who are elderly and vulnerable.
The rallying call for homecare workers is part of the council’s Pathway to Health and Social (PHSC) programme, which aims to ensure there are enough carers for over the winter months.
Pathways to Health and Social Care is part funded by Nottingham City Council and the European Union through the European Social Fund (ESF).
Cllr Adele Williams, Portfolio Holder for Adults and Health at Nottingham City Council, said: “We are asking people across the city a simple question – could you care? Could you care for someone who needs a little extra support in their homes, helping with practical and everyday tasks?
“As a City Council we have a duty to help and support residents in our communities. This often involves helping to recruit the right people into those valuable homecare roles for other local providers which have positions available.
“Homecare work makes a huge different to people in our city. The work can be local to your home, and be flexible around hours to suit your home, family or social commitments.
“You don’t need qualifications or past experience for these roles – you just need to be the type of person who is able to provide quality care. If you are compassionate, patient, and respectful and will be dedicated to helping to improve the lives of people you support, you should think about getting into the care workforce.
“We are working with our partners in health and care to improve and make visible the career pathways in the sector but there already are great opportunities to progress and develop. From day one, though, you would be making a real difference to people in our city, and starting off on what could be a lifetime career in the sector, by supporting people to live well in their own homes.”

Case study: Stewart, Homecare Officer for Nottingham City Council
Stewart has worked for Nottingham City Council’s homecare team for over four years. Stewart works out in the community and supports people in their own homes when they come out of hospital or if they develop a need for some extra support. Stewart will support people and help them until they get back to doing as much as they possibly can for themselves. Speaking of his work, Stewart said: “I love my job – it’s fantastic as we often get to see a very positive outcome at the end of whatever we have been doing. It’s very rewarding and there are no qualifications required – I didn’t need any training, the City Council provided all of it. It’s one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had.”
