The City Council is committed to investing in road maintenance as part of its wider aim to improve Nottingham’s Neighbourhoods. Our Highways team will soon be starting a six-week programme of road maintenance works, which is set to start on 18 September. In total, work will be carried out on 33 Nottingham streets.

On selected streets the existing surface will be overlaid using a cold-applied mix of bitumen binder and aggregate which will be laid by a specialist vehicle. This process is known as ‘microsurfacing’ and forms an important part of preventative maintenance against the long term deterioration of our roads.

Work is weather dependent so the schedule may be subject to change. Notices will be erected and local citizens will be informed in advance when work will start on their streets. The full works programme is available at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/improvinghighways

Councillor Sally Longford, portfolio holder for neighbourhood services and local transport said “With over 782km of roads in the city to maintain, this programme is essential to take early action and to prevent road surfaces deteriorating before more costly road resurfacing is required. The process itself is quick and in most cases the surface treatment will be completed in 1 to 2 days. Nevertheless we apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping us carry out this essential work.”

Our Highways team regularly monitors and reviews the condition of the highway network to repair network elements or to make situations safe. Members of the public can report any faults on the road online at https://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/report-it/ or over the phone by contacting the call centre on 0115 9152000.
