The Police have directed a number of road closures for the Royal Visit on Friday 1 December.

Nottingham will be proudly hosting the first public appearance of HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following the announcement of their engagement earlier this week.

The couple will be visiting the Nottingham Contemporary to support the Terrence Higgins World Aids Day charity fair.

The city is extremely busy at this time of year anyway, but due to road closures directed by the Police, there will be significant delays in the area around where the visit is taking place  from 7am through to the early afternoon.

The following roads will be closed to all vehicles and have limited pedestrian access:

Hollowstone

High Pavement

St Mary’s Gate

Middle Hill

Weekday Cross

A decision may be made by Nottinghamshire Police on the day to close Fletcher Gate to all traffic in both directions, including the trams and buses, depending on the scale of the crowds.

Affected car parks

Due to the closure of Middle Hill, it is likely motorists will be unable to access Lace Market Car Park.

People arriving before the closure will be able to exit during the day by turning right out of the car park and going through Lace Market.

Alternatively, the City Council is providing extra parking through the opening the Motorpoint Arena Car Park from 6.30am.

Please be advised that there is only temporary lighting in half of the car park and it is not lined, so we ask all customers to take care when using the car park, which not be suitable for those with accessibility requirements.

Payment can only be made by phone, through RingGo, using location code 18913.

The tariff is:

Early Bird (all day parking, arrive before 9.30 am) – £3.50

2 hours – £2.50

4 hours – £4.00

6 hours – £5.00

9 hours – £10.00

For tomorrow only (1 December) people parking in the Motorpoint Point Arena Car Park will be able to board the EcoLink bus free of charge all day (6.30am to 6.30pm). The Ecolink bus picks up and drops off on City Gate, next to the car park.

Please tell the bus driver you have parked at the Motorpoint Arena Car Park and the driver will allow you to board for free.
