On behalf of Councillor Georgia Power, Chair of the Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee, and Councillor Adele Williams, Chair of the Nottingham Health and Wellbeing Board

“We welcome the appointment of Donna Ockenden to chair the review of maternity services in Nottingham. We hope that this will give affected families confidence in the review process making sure their voices and experiences are heard.

“We have had serious concerns about the pace and extent of improvement at NUH. This led to the Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee writing on behalf of Nottingham City Council to Health Secretary Sajid Javid and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in March, seeking assurance that the situation at NUH was being monitored and supported with sufficient resource.

“Following today’s publication of the CQC inspection report, it is clear that these concerns remain. It is therefore critical for us to see significant and swift action from the review to drive improvement in NUH’s maternity services. This must give expectant families the confidence that they will receive the safe and effective care they deserve.”
