Nottingham’s annual Civic Service of Remembrance will take place at the War Memorial, Victoria Embankment on Sunday 12 November, starting at 10.45am.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Mike Edwards, will be at the War Memorial for the Service, together with the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Sir John Peace, the Sheriff of Nottingham, Councillor Glyn Jenkins, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor John Handley and representatives from various Armed Forces and organisations. The Service will be conducted by the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, The Rt. Revd. Paul Williams, the Bishop of Nottingham, The Rt. Revd. Patrick McKinney, and the Lord Mayor’s Chaplain Bishop James Stapleton of the Open Christian Fellowship.
The Act of Homage will be delivered by the Venerable (Air Vice Marshal) Robin Turner CB, DL County President Royal British Legion and Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Ketterer of the East Midlands OUTC.
The Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Sir John Peace, will take the salute at the March Past at the end of the service.
Music before, and during the Service, will be provided by the Nottinghamshire Band of the Royal Engineers (Volunteers) who will be accompanied by the Nottingham Hospitals Choir.
Members of the public wishing to attend the Service are invited to come along to the War Memorial for 10.30am.
Following the service, the Lord-Lieutenant, Lord Mayor and other dignitaries, will return to the Council House forecourt in the Old Market Square to take the salute during a March Past of the South Notts Hussars Association, following their drumhead service at St Mary’s Church in The Lace Market. They will set off from St Marys Church at around 12noon.
Representatives of the Royal British Legion, together with the Lord Mayor, Sheriff and Lord Mayor’s Chaplain, Bishop James Stapleton will also gather for a two-minute silence on Saturday 11 November at 11am in front of the Council House. Members of the public are also welcome to come along.
