Nottingham’s two civic dignitaries for the next 12 months have been inaugurated into office.

The new Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Councillor Mike Edwards, and the new Sheriff of Nottingham, Councillor Glynn Jenkins, were elected at Nottingham City Council’s annual meeting on May 8.  They have replaced Councillor Mohammed Saghir and Councillor Jackie Morris in their respective posts.

Born near Shrewsbury, Councillor Edwards has lived in Nottingham since 1983 and was elected as a City Councillor in 1998. He currently represents The Meadows and has held responsibility for finance, sustainability and transport at the council.

During his civic year he will be writing up historical stories of Nottingham. Also during his year he will be supporting the Women’s Refuge, In Bloom and the Meadows Friends of Libraries. Councillor Edwards’ partner Susan Phillips will be his Lady Mayoress for the year.

Councillor Jenkins was born in Nottingham and was first elected as councillor for the Leen Valley ward in May 2011. He previously served for six years as a Governor at the former Seagrave Primary school. He was also secretary to the future form youth club and treasurer for his local action group in Strelley.

He has chosen Cheryl Hemmings, currently the Manager of the Vine Community Centre in Hyson Green, to be his Sheriff’s Lady for the year.
