Nottingham City Council will provide further support to residents this winter thanks to the Covid Winter Grant scheme.

More than £500,000 is being pledged towards vouchers for food and essential supplies – with around 10,000 supermarket e-vouchers (worth £50 each) available to residents who may need an extra bit of help and are currently not receiving any other form of benefit.

Cllr Rebecca Langton, Portfolio Holder for Communities at Nottingham City Council, said: “We are pleased to be able to use the Covid Winter Grant scheme to support struggling residents in Nottingham.

“The council has already supported those families in receipt of means-tested free school meals with £500,000 of e-vouchers over the Christmas holiday and has allocated another £250,000 for the February half-term. Many residents do not receive this or any other form of benefit and are managing on low incomes. With rising food costs, we hope this extra support will ease the strain on some families to help them through these difficult times.

“Last year was difficult on many of our residents and 2021 already hasn’t been easy. We want people to know if they are struggling with anything, they can call us and we can try to help in any way we can. The e-voucher scheme is open to Nottingham City residents in receipt of Council Tax Support, with or without children and not in receipt of any of the following benefits:

  • Means-tested free school meals
  • Support Grant from HMRC / local authority
  • Self-Isolation Payment

Residents who meet the criteria will be sent a £50 e-voucher via email that can be redeemed at local supermarkets and utilises the EdenRed scheme. Only one voucher per person can be applied for.
