A major incident has been declared along the River Trent in Nottinghamshire due to flooding and the risk of further flooding caused by Storm Henk.
Nottinghamshire and Nottingham Local Resilience Forum has taken the decision due to rising river levels along the River Trent, which is yet to peak.
Latest forecasts are currently showing that peaks along the River Trent could come close to the highest levels on record from the year 2000 and so Nottingham City Council and its partner agencies are advising residents in areas along the Trent Valley to be prepared for flooding.
In Nottingham city, Colwick Country Park is shut due to flooding and so is Queens Drive Park and Ride. (Updated 3pm 4/1/24) The River Trent has also overflowed onto the pathways alongside Victoria Embankment.
Key tributaries which feed in to the River Trent, including the River Derwent, the River Soar and the River Dove, have already reached their peaks and high water levels will now pass down the Trent, which is likely to lead to the flooding to properties and roads.
Residents who live in the flood risk areas are being asked to ensure they have preparations in place in case they are asked to evacuate. Councils, emergency services and the Environment Agency have been providing emergency support to communities impacted and will continue to provide support across the county. A number of key roads in the County are closed due to flooding at present and we are asking residents to consider avoiding these areas unless it is for essential travel. A full list of county road closures can be found on the County Council’s website.

- Only travelling if necessary in the flood areas.
- Don’t ignore a flood warning or a road closure sign.
- Do not to enter flood water in case of hidden hazards such as lifted manhole covers.
- Staying away from swollen rivers and flood water.
- Looking out for vulnerable friends, relatives and neighbours.
