Nottingham City Council Transport Planner and community actor Ross Levy is set to mark his 30th birthday in style – by running the London Marathon on Sunday 27 April alongside his mum, Katie, who is celebrating her own milestone 60th year.
Together, they are taking on the iconic 26.2-mile challenge to raise £3,000 for Autism East Midlands, a regional charity that supports autistic individuals and their families across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and surrounding counties.
Ross, who also serves as a trustee for Autism East Midlands, has seen first-hand the impact the charity makes. The charity also has a flagship specialist school in the heart of Nottingham where you will find their inspiration and begrudging training partner Alex!
“One of us is turning 60 next year, and the other is turning 30, and to do something for an amazing charity to celebrate seems very fitting!” said Ross.
“We are so grateful for any sponsorship or support received and will be training through the winter months with you all spurring us on. Autism East Midlands is a charity that has an everyday impact for our family, as well as thousands of other individuals and families every single day.”
The funds raised will help Autism East Midlands continue delivering vital services — from education and residential care to independence training and family support — all focused on helping autistic individuals feel heard, respected, independent and included.
Ross is also juggling his marathon training with preparations for his upcoming performance in Hamlet: The Rest is Silence, a bold new community-led adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic, produced by the Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company. The show runs on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 June at the Royal Concert Hall.
“Running the marathon and rehearsing for Hamlet at the same time has been full-on, but I’m so proud to be part of both,” said Ross. “Both are about community, resilience, and celebrating what people can achieve when they come together.”
