New Government Covid restrictions announced by the Prime Minister today mean three households will now only be allowed to meet on Christmas Day and not for five days as originally planned.

Nottingham remains in tier three but London, the South East and parts of eastern England are to move to a new tier four level of restrictions.

Councillor David Mellen, Leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “People who have made plans to meet up with loved ones over Christmas will be bitterly disappointed that they can now only do this on Christmas Day itself. However the news about London and the South East moving into a new tier 4 after only days ago being in tier two is very concerning.

“Although Nottingham has seen the number of Covid-19 cases reduce considerably over the last few weeks, the virus is still present in our communities and there has been small rise in positive cases this week. It’s absolutely vital that we all continue to stick to the rules and follow the ‘hands, face, space’ guidance to stop the spread and avoid putting pressure on our hospitals.”
