Residents in Nottinghamshire can benefit from a 15% discount for adult and group day tickets on Nottingham City Transport (NCT) buses thanks to the Notts Green Rewards programme.

The partnership between Nottingham City Transport, all eight Nottinghamshire councils and Nottinghamshire County Council is available from today through the Notts Green Rewards programme – a website and mobile app free for everyone with Nottingham postcodes to enjoy.

The Notts Green Rewards programme supports the city’s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2028 by incentivising residents to learn about and take action on climate change by reducing waste, shopping sustainably, encouraging local biodiversity and more. Residents earn points for taking actions and, each month, there are £20 vouchers for the top performers – and now the chance to win a monthly NCT bus pass worth £60.

Residents can sign up for free at notts.greenrewards.co.uk or download the Green Rewards app on iOS and Android by searching for ‘Notts Green Rewards’ in the device’s app store to access a code that will enable them to travel at the discounted price.

The 15% discount offered by NCT is available as a mobile ticket through the NCTX Buses app, where residents can also plan journeys, look up timetables and check the live departure times for buses.

NCT has a fleet of 120 bio-gas, double-decker buses which have prevented over 26,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide and 180,000 kilos of nitrogen oxides from being emitted over the last five years. This latest collaboration encourages residents to make more sustainable travel choices by leaving the car at home and hopes to support residents during the cost of living crisis.

The Nottingham Green Rewards platform launched to residents in October 2021 and is a unique initiative funded and driven by all the councils across the county, including Nottingham City Council, Ashfield District Council, Bassetlaw Borough Council, Broxtowe Borough Council, Gedling Borough Council, Mansfield District Council, Newark and Sherwood District Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.

Councillor Sally Longford, Portfolio Holder for Energy, Environment and Waste Service, said: “We are pleased to be part of the Green Rewards app which offers residents a platform to engage in carbon reduction behaviours and support the city’s carbon neutral aims.

“Many of the choices we make every day have the power to impact our environment, and this app recognises that and rewards residents for their green actions. Carbon reducing activities such as swapping a car journey for a bus journey, saying no to single-use items and having reusable alternatives and recycling at home can collectively have a huge impact on an individual’s carbon footprint and contribute to the wider goal of being carbon neutral.”

Anthony Carver-Smith, Head of Marketing of Nottingham City Transport, said: “Sustainability is at the top of our agenda at Nottingham City Transport, and as we start to see people return to bus after the pandemic, our partnership with local councils through the Green Rewards scheme is a great way to encourage more people to travel by bus and make Nottinghamshire the green travel capital of the UK. We can’t wait to see where this collaboration takes us!”
