Residents across Nottingham will soon be able to access free bulky waste collections, making it easier to dispose of large household items safely and conveniently.
The new service will give residents access to two free bulky waste collections per year, helping people get rid of items such as furniture, white goods and mattresses at no cost. This will make it simpler for residents to dispose of bulky items responsibly, while supporting cleaner neighbourhoods and improving the overall environment across the city.
The service will also include the safe disposal of items containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), found in some types of upholstered seating, supporting wider environmental and public health objectives.
The introduction of free bulky waste collections forms part of a wider programme of investment to improve cleansing services across Nottingham. Alongside this, residents will begin to see:
- Enhanced deep cleaning in the city centre
- Scheduled washdowns in key shopping precincts
- Extended street cleaning hours into weekday evenings and weekends
Councillor Corall Jenkins, Executive Member for Neighbourhoods, Waste and Equalities said: “We know that getting rid of large household items isn’t always easy, especially when cost or access can be a barrier.
“By reintroducing free bulky waste collections, we’re making it simpler for residents to dispose of items safely and responsibly.
“This is about supporting our communities and making practical improvements that help keep neighbourhoods clean and well cared for. It’s another example of how we are delivering for Nottingham and focusing on the things that matter most to people.”
The service is expected to launch in Autumn 2026, with further details on how to book and access collections to be shared in the coming months. Bulky waste collections will remain chargeable until the free service goes live.
