Plans to deliver 30 new social rented homes in Clifton have been approved by Nottingham City Council’s Planning Committee.
The development will see the former United Reformed Church site on Southchurch Drive redeveloped to provide 30 one-bedroom apartments, all owned and managed by the council’s Housing Services team.
The proposals will transform the vacant brownfield site with a predominantly three-storey building incorporating a recessed fourth floor. The location is close to public transport and local services.
Residents of Whiteways Court, which is next to the site, have previously expressed concerns about the building’s height and scale, its impact on neighbouring homes, and the lack of dedicated car parking. These issues were considered throughout the planning process, with officers concluding that the proposals were acceptable in planning terms.
The development includes measures to protect neighbouring residents’ privacy, retain the principal tree belt along the western boundary, and provide additional landscaping and ecological enhancements. Council officers will work with residents of Whiteways Court going forward to make sure they are kept informed and the impact on them is minimised before, during and after construction.
Cllr Jay Hayes, Executive Member for Housing and Planning at Nottingham City Council, said: “This development represents an important step in delivering the Nottingham Vision’s Homes in the Heart ambition. By bringing forward high-quality new homes, we’re helping to meet housing need, support regeneration and create vibrant, sustainable neighbourhoods where people can thrive.”
