A senior Nottingham City Councillor has reassured local communities that the city takes all hate crime extremely seriously following national media and social media coverage about letters threatening members of the Muslim community received in other parts of the country.

Councillor Toby Neal, Portfolio Holder for Community and Customer Services, said: “We understand the impact this letter must be having on our local communities.

“Nottingham is a city where people get on with each other whatever their background. We will always take all hate crime extremely seriously and will continue to work closely with the Police, voluntary sector partners and communities to tackle hate and terrorism, including that of the far right.

“If anyone receives one of the letters or has any information about them, we would urge them to contact the Police on 101.”
