Nottingham City Council is once again awarding grants to community and voluntary organisations to encourage communities to live greener.
Grants of up to £2,500 are available and this year’s scheme has a collaborative aim, with up to £1,000 available to spend on existing projects and the remainder to be used to help set up similar projects in other areas.
Grants will be awarded to one group per ward of Nottingham, and applications which support waste minimisation, energy efficiency, and climate change awareness will be welcomed.
Projects eligible for the grant could include:
- Community Events
- Campaigns to promote waste minimisation
- Community level recycling education
- Community-relevant energy efficiency awareness
- Projects to help communities out of fuel poverty
- Community flood awareness campaigns
- Creation of community influencers / news groups (via assistance from existing groups).
The project, activity or event must benefit Nottingham City residents and should be community driven and involve local residents. It is hoped the grants scheme will:
- Make issues like climate change, sustainability, waste management, and energy use understandable and relevant to local people
- Engage with local people who may not have considered environmental issues before as well as those who are already actively reducing their environmental impact
- Support existing projects which demonstrate new ways of engaging the local community to further reduce carbon emissions
- Kick start new projects and activities.

Community and voluntary organisations / groups, and social / not for profit enterprises working to develop activities and services within the city boundary are eligible to apply for funding. The deadline for the receipt of applications is 4pm on Friday January 15, 2016.
