Enjoy Christmas Safely in Your Neighbourhood

Christmas may feel slightly different this year – but your local neighbourhood still has plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy!

Whether you want to get wrapped up and take stroll around your local neighbourhood, or huddle around the laptop to enjoy an activity online – there is something for everyone!

Unfortunately Covid-19 stops us gathering together for Christmas Light switch on events. But the lights will still go up and still shine brightly for us all to enjoy this year.

Arboretum, Radford and Castle Wards

Canning Circus will be lit up with Christmas lights from early December.

Ward Councillors are funding the purchase of books and advent calendars to give to local school children so they are guaranteed a gift this Christmas.

Aspley & Leen Valley Wards

A Christmas tree will be put up and ward Councillors will switch on the Christmas lights in early December – residents can enjoy watching the event on social media.

Local residents will be invited to put ‘stars’ on the barriers around the Christmas tree to remember loved ones who have passed. Ward Councillors have funded a banner, which has been produced by a local business, to promote remembrance of loved ones.

Basford Ward

Ward Councillors are funding local community groups to ensure they can support families and people this Christmas.

Children and families can enjoy a Basford themed advent calendar on Facebook – with a post a day featured a Christmas activity and a quiz.

Bestwood Ward

Bestwood will have Christmas lights to enjoy from the beginning of December around Beckhampton Road.

Bilborough Ward

Bilborough will have Christmas lights to enjoy from the beginning of December, as well as a Christmas tree near Bracebridge Drive Shops.

Bulwell & Bulwell Forest Wards

Bulwell and Bulwell Forest Wards will join together this year for a light switch on which residents can enjoy on social media from the beginning of December.

Local school children will also be pre-recording Christmas carol singing which everyone can enjoy on social media.

There will also be a Christmas tree in the area and local children will be making the decorations for the tree.

Clifton East and West Wards

Ward Councillors will switch on festive lights around Clifton Town Centre, along with a local child who won the ‘Pride of Clifton Award’. This will be recorded for local residents to enjoy on social media from the beginning of December.

There will also be a Christmas ‘socially distanced’ parade with the ‘Joker’ going through Clifton, Wilford and Silverdale on Saturday 5 December. Final arrangements for this event will depend on COVID 19 Government advice and restrictions at the time.

Dales Ward

Christmas lights alongside Sneinton Dale will be switched on by ward Councillors. Ward Councillors will also share a video Christmas message on social media which residents can enjoy from the second week in December.

Hyson Green & Berridge Wards

Ward Councillors will switch on Christmas lights at Peppers Garden, near Asda. Residents can enjoy the lights from the beginning of December.

The Local Councillor of the Hyson Green and Arboretum ward, are also giving a donation of £300 to each of the five primary schools in the ward, to fund their festive celebrations.

Lenton & Wollaton East Ward

Residents can enjoy Christmas lights around Woodside Road Shops and Kennington Road from the beginning of December.

Mapperley Ward

Ward Councillors will be donating Christmas Advent Calendars to local schools across the area.

The Meadows Ward

Residents can enjoy Christmas lights (Pealights) which will go up on existing trees at the Bridgeway Centre at the beginning of December.

Ward Councillors have also funded goody bags for local children which will be distributed by The Meadows Library.

Sherwood Ward

The Christmas lights in the neighbourhood will be switched on at the end of November.

Children and families can enjoy a Sherwood themed advent calendar on Facebook – with a post a day featured a Christmas activity and a quiz.

There will also be a campaign on social media to encourage all Sherwood residents to switch on their own Christmas lights at 5pm on Friday 27 November.

St Ann’s Ward

Residents can enjoy a Christmas tree which will be installed outside St Ann’s Police Station from the beginning of December.

Ward Councillors have funded and will distribute Christmas Advent Calendars to local school children at the end of November.

Wollaton West Ward

Residents can enjoy a Christmas tree and festive lights around Bramcote Lane shops from the beginning of December.
