Primary pupils have been praised for the way they meet their school’s ‘Magnificent Seven’ standards.
Ofsted inspectors said children at Rufford Primary and Nursery work hard to be caring, respectful, determined, confident, ambitious, honest and curious.
Following an inspection visit, the education watchdog said pupils’ positive attitude to learning and behaviour was a direct result of the strong leadership team at the school in Hopewood Road, Bulwell.
Awarding a judgment of ‘Good’ to the school, inspectors said: “The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the previous inspection. You lead the school extremely well. Staff and parents regard your leadership highly.”
Rufford Primary, which has 404 pupils, was previously also rated as ‘Good’. Inspectors said: “Pupils throughout the school behave well, work hard and concentrate in lessons. They act safely and show respect for the safety of others.”
In particular, the inspectors highlighted:
- The quality of teaching and the use of assessment have improved
- Throughout the school, reading and mathematics are very well taught
- Improvements in the teaching of reading have helped enhance pupils’ reading skills and their enjoyment of reading
- Children progress well from their starting points in the early years
- The governing body carries out its role effectively; governors are well organised and know the school in detail
- Parents hold the school in very high regard
Inspectors added that pupils at the school had established a strong track record of ensuring, through good-quality guidance for staff, that improvements are implemented consistently. This means that the school is very well placed to continue to improve.
Commenting on the report, Rufford Head Teacher Alison Tones said: “I’m pleased that the report has recognised not only the hard work of our pupils and teachers but also the commitment from the leadership of our school to driving up standards.
“We place a high value on having a positive attitude to learning and to the people around us, which was highlighted by Ofsted as a real strength.
“The report recognised that we have made improvements since the last inspection – and also acknowledges that we have the right framework in place to continue to improve.
“Parents, pupils, teachers, governors – and the whole community – should feel extremely proud of their school.”
