Partners and businesses across Nottingham have committed to help shape the city’s future, at today’s launch event.
The Vision was unveiled at two high-profile launch events held on Friday 5 June at Nottingham Council House, following its national debut at UKREiiF in Leeds.
Co-created with residents, businesses and partners, the Nottingham City Vision sets out a clear and collective ambition for the city’s long-term future. At its heart are three defining pillars:
- Home – creating healthy, inclusive neighbourhoods where people can thrive
- Heart – strengthening Nottingham as a leading city at the centre of a growing regional economy
- Host – positioning Nottingham as a welcoming destination for business, culture, sport and visitors.
These pillars are supported by Ten Bold Ideas designed to drive long-term investment, accelerate regeneration and unlock inclusive growth across the city.
Bringing together a diverse mix of voices from across the city’s business, education and voluntary and community sectors, the events created a strong sense of momentum, collaboration and shared purpose, signalling the start of an exciting new chapter for Nottingham.
Attendees heard from civic leaders, regional partners and organisations already playing a key role in Nottingham’s future. The launch events included contributions from Leader of Nottingham City Council, Cllr Neghat Khan; Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward; Sajeeda Rose, Chief Executive of Nottingham City Council; Vicky Evans, ARUP; Lilian Greenwood MP; Janet Smith, CEO and Principal of Nottingham College and Vice-Chair of the Nottingham Growth Board; and Liz Cartwright, Managing Director of Cartwright Communications.
Speakers highlighted the importance of partnership working, regional collaboration and long-term thinking in delivering the Vision.
Cllr Neghat Khan, said: “Nottingham is making real moves and setting out a bold, confident Vision for the future of our city. This isn’t a wish list it is achievable and investable propositions.
“Launching the Nottingham City Vision at UKREiiF was a fantastic moment for us on the national stage, showcasing our ambition to investors and partners from across the country. But bringing that Vision home to Nottingham – to our businesses, our voluntary and community sector, and our local partners – is just as significant.
“It’s about creating a city that is full of opportunity, inclusive in its growth, and ambitious in what it can achieve.
“We’re building momentum, working together, and taking real steps to shape a better future for everyone in Nottingham.”
The events also provided an opportunity to explore how organisations can support and contribute to the Vision, with discussions focused on delivery, collaboration and next steps.
Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, said: “The launch of Nottingham City Vision 2050 here in the city is an important moment in bringing partners together behind a shared ambition for Nottingham’s future.
“This Vision sets out a confident and long-term plan for how Nottingham can continue to grow as a vibrant, inclusive, and connected city, with brilliant opportunities for future generations.
“What stands out is the spirit of collaboration behind it. Delivering meaningful change requires local government, businesses, education providers, the voluntary and community sector, and regional partners to work together with a common purpose.
“As Mayor, I’m committed to supporting Nottingham’s ambitions as part of a thriving East Midlands economy, helping to unlock investment, drive regeneration, and create sustainable growth that benefits communities across our region.”
Liz Cartwright, founder of Cartwright, a full-service marketing agency based in the Lace Market area of the city, said: “The city’s new Vision focuses heavily on building up our ‘Innovation Districts’ and partnering directly with the universities. By transforming Nottingham into a vibrant, 15-minute city where young professionals actually want to be, it makes it so much easier for us to bring the best talent to our businesses. We can catch that elite talent before they head elsewhere, giving us a powerhouse pipeline of local PRs, creators and marketeers.
“I can see the clear benefits for all businesses here in the city. For me, SMEs can really benefit – in particularly creative agencies and marketing agencies like mine that are going to win the biggest.”
Throughout the day, speakers reinforced Nottingham’s role within the wider East Midlands economy, including its contribution to the Trent Arc and the region’s future growth and prosperity.
The Nottingham City Vision 2050 will act as a framework for future investment, regeneration and partnership working, helping to ensure Nottingham continues to grow as a vibrant, inclusive and forward-looking city.
