Nottingham has today unveiled its long-term vision for the city’s future at the UK’s leading real estate and investment event, the UK Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF).
Co-created with Nottingham residents and businesses, the Nottingham City Vision sets out a clear, shared ambition for how the city will grow, evolve and succeed over the next 25 years – positioning the city as a vibrant, connected and inclusive place that attracts investment, supports its communities and creates opportunity for all.
At the Vision’s core are three defining pillars:
Home – healthy, diverse neighbourhoods where people can live well
Heart – a leading city at the centre of a thriving regional economy
Host – a welcoming destination for business, culture, sport and visitors.
Together, these pillars provide the foundation for a long-term programme of transformation across the city.
The Vision is brought to life through “Ten Bold Ideas” that will shape Nottingham’s future, from delivering new homes and greener neighbourhoods to creating a world-class innovation ecosystem and strengthening the city’s cultural identity.
These Ten Bold Ideas include ‘Homes in the Heart’ which focuses on delivering more high-quality homes in the city centre. ‘Nottingham’s Green Grid’, that will see improved connections through walking, cycling and public transport, ‘Innovation District’ that looks at driving growth through research, technology and collaboration and ‘Commercial District’ which aims to drive the creation of high-quality workspace to attract investment.
Together, the Ten Bold Ideas form a connected programme of change, supporting economic growth, sustainability and quality of life.
The Vision builds and provides a clear framework to guide future investment, regeneration and partnership working across the city and wider region.
Councillor Neghat Khan, Leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “Nottingham is a city with huge potential which sits at the heart of the UK. From regeneration and housing, to innovation, skills and culture, Nottingham is turning bold ambition into action. We’ve already secured over £4 billion for major developments in the city, but this Vision sets out how we can go even further over the next 25 years.
“Home, Heart and Host’ and our Ten Bold Ideas capture what we want Nottingham to be – a city where people can live well, where businesses can grow, and where visitors and investors can thrive.
“Launching our 2025 Vision at UKREiiF is such an important moment for Nottingham. It shows we are serious about working with partners and investors to deliver long-term, sustainable growth that benefits our residents and our city.
“We are a destination for investment. We know where we’re going, and we’re ready to work with partners and investors that can match our bold ambitions.”
The Nottingham City Vision 2050 was launched at the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) Pavilion today during a panel session led by Nottingham City Council and Invest in Nottingham.
Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, said: “Nottingham is looking firmly to the future to create a greener, better connected, and more inclusive city. I am proud to support the city’s journey to realise that ambition.
“This 2050 Vision reflects the voices of residents, businesses, and partners, while showing the determination to build a city where people can thrive.
“We are ready to work collaboratively with investors and partners who share our commitment to delivering inclusive, sustainable growth and transformative opportunities for everyone who calls Nottingham home.”
The Nottingham City Vision 2050 sets out a long-term framework for growth, investment and regeneration, building on the city’s strengths while addressing key challenges.
