Couples may soon have the chance to get married in the majestic surroundings of Nottingham Castle.

And they can get a feel for the heritage site as a wedding venue when it holds its first wedding fair for over 25 years this weekend.

The free wedding fair will be held on Sunday 12 April from 11am until 4pm.

The event marks the announcement that the site has recently applied for a licence to host wedding ceremonies. Subject to approval (decision expected in June), weddings will be allowed to take place in The Castle Bastion, ideal for small intimate ceremonies, as well as a number of magnificent rooms in the main museum (including the Long Gallery) and the Castle Bandstand in the wonderful gardens.

Nottingham Castle staff will be available at the show to give bridal couples a tour of the rooms and to discuss the facilities available for their wedding day.

The event, hosted in partnership with Perfect Weddings, will bring over 40 quality exhibitors, entertainment and stylish displays to the medieval castle site and its stunning grounds.

The first 70 brides will receive a free goody bag and there will also be free samples and special offers throughout the day. Bridal couples who pre-register to attend the event at will gain free entry.

Rachel Dewsbury from the City Council’s heritage sites, said “We’re delighted to be able to host a free wedding fair at the magnificent Nottingham Castle and are looking forward to it becoming a welcome addition alongside Wollaton Hall and Newstead Abbey as a wedding venue for all seasons. The fair will be a great opportunity for couples to meet with some of the region’s finest suppliers while seeing the variety of beautiful rooms and grounds we will shortly have available for couples wanting to get married or have a civil partnership.

“Couples are invited to come along on their own or with friends and families and meet the various people involved to get a feel for their special day.”

Admission to the show is free. For further information and details of exhibitors, please contact Tel 07581 054777
