The first Spiegeltent events are announced today as the popular attraction, which has been visiting the city since 2015 is confirmed for the Old Market Square this May. The programme will be staged between Saturday 4 May and Saturday 18 May.

The tent will host a packed schedule of great events including music, circus, cabaret, theatre, comedy and burlesque, with something for the entire family, plus food and drink.

Regular favourite, The Gilded Merkin Burlesque and Cabaret returns with two chances to see Nottingham’s biggest Burlesque show or why not come and belt out some classic tunes at Bamalamasingsong?

Best known from Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo – Comedian Milton Jones brings the laughs, while local ground-breaking band Stone Foundation offers a mix of soul as well as influences from Paul Weller.

Last but not least, roll up for The Greatest Nottingham Circus Cabaret Show which offers some all-round family entertainment. This is the first of a varied programme of events for children and families.

Known for their wild and decadent ambiance, Spiegeltents are exquisite pop-up venues. Literally translated as ‘mirror tent’ they were built in Belgium in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and now regularly tour the world’s cities and festivals. Stepping inside the beautiful century-old travelling dance hall, made of wood and complete with ornate decoration and mirrors is like a step back in time.

Councillor Dave Trimble, portfolio holder for leisure and localities said: “We’ve had some great feedback from audiences of all ages since the Spiegeltent has been visiting the city. We think this year’s programme is going to be the best so far. Whatever your interest, there will be something to entertain you. We expect that many of the shows will sell out very quickly, so I would urge people not to miss out on this truly novel entertainment experience.”

But this is also a love story with the twist, or at least a really bad sprain. Just gloriously daft nonsense or is there a deeper meaning?
