A property that was the focus for drug dealing and taking and other illegal and anti-social activity has been closed down following action by the City Council.
Teams within the council’s Community Protection section – including the Safer Housing team, Neighbourhood Management, Anti-Social Behaviour Team, Community Protection Officers and Street Scene – worked with Nottinghamshire Police to bring about the closure of 41 Manor Street in Sneinton.
The action came after numerous residents in Sneinton complained to the police and the council about anti-social behaviour taking place at the premises. Members of the community said that drug dealing activity and other nuisance from the premises was having an impact on the quality of their lives.
The property is privately owned and has been privately rented by a female tenant. However, other people including known drug users have also been living there and large numbers of people have been visiting frequently. Over the last six months in particular issues have been raised relating to the use and dealing of controlled drugs, unlawful, anti-social and potential criminal activity at the property.
The City Council brought a case for the closure of the premises to Nottingham Magistrates on September 12, who granted a Closure Order.
Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, Cllr Toby Neal, said: “This result at court is the culmination of excellent collaborative work between different teams within Community Protection and partnership working with Police colleagues.
“The anti-social and unlawful activity taking place in and around this property was having a major impact on the local area. All residents have a right to be able to enjoy life in their own homes and communities, and if anyone is experiencing wholly unacceptable activity like this, they can be assured we will do our best to take action which will put a stop to it.”
Chief Insp Alan Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Local Neighbourhood Police have worked extremely closely with Nottingham City Council to bring about this resolution with the Closure Order.
“I am extremely satisfied with this result. My Neighbourhood Teams will always be proactive when we receive intelligence concerning premises or individuals that are actively involved in crime and we will at every opportunity work with our City Council partners to deal with such reports with all criminal and civil legislation that is available to us.”
