The popular Robin Hood Pageant returns to Nottingham Castle this weekend after the event was cancelled in October due to hurricane warnings.

Nottingham Castle will again invite the public to experience the medieval world of Robin Hood as the Robin Hood Pageant returns to the City for its 28th year on 10 and 11 March.

In an event that is suitable for the whole family with entertainment to engage all ages, visitors will have the opportunity to join Robin Hood and his Merry Men along with a whole host of colourful characters in this immersive experience guaranteed to transport them back in time to 12th Century Nottingham.

The Castle will be transformed into a medieval village encampment, located just outside the Sheriff of Nottingham’s stronghold of Nottingham Castle, complete with period cooking, traditional crafts, street theatre, music and puppet shows. Have an audience with King Richard I, visit the apothecary for all kinds of cures, and even a barber surgeon for those with a troublesome tooth they might want removed.

Those really wanting to fully embrace the medieval experience will be able to visit market stalls and sample medieval delicacies such as roasted meats and ales.

There will be archery demonstrations with a chance to test your aim. Watch combat demonstrations as well as displays from the falconry team providing entertainment with amazing birds of prey.

The experience climaxes in a spectacular show of jousting knights and horseback sword fighting as Robin faces off against the evil Sheriff of Nottingham – in his bid to steal from the rich to give to the poor.

In a slightly different format to previous years, there will be two shows daily on the Castle Green with tickets available for either 11:00 – 13:30 or 14:30 – 17:00. Tickets include full access to the site and to Nottingham Castle for the day as well as the timed shows including jousts.

Cllr Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture said: “The Nottingham Pageant is one of our most popular events and people come from far and wide, to really embrace the legend of Robin Hood and for a real medieval experience. There are interesting characters to meet and to chat to about crafts and traditions and activities to get involved in as well as the breath-taking jousting and combat demonstrations. It is great fun for all the family and for all ages as well as being a window into history.”
