Some of Nottingham’s most talented children and young people will be showcasing their skills and love of music at TWO charity concerts.

Christmas in the City 2014 is back for another year of great local live music from children and young people across the city.

Hundreds will take to the stage of the Albert Hall in Nottingham on Monday 8 December 2014 at 7pm. The public are also being given the chance to enjoy a second festive concert at the Royal Concert Hall on Monday 15 December at 7pm.

All the children and young people taking part are learning to play a musical instrument, studying music or being taught to sing with the Nottingham Music Hub. The Hub aims to give children of all backgrounds the chance to learn and they believe making music with others can bring out the best in a child and helping them to discover their talent.

The Nottingham Music Service (NMS) is a charitable trust supported by Nottingham City Council. They provide and support a range of musical opportunities for young people and schools in the city and they are the lead partner for Nottingham Music Hub.

Ian Burton, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nottingham Music Service, said: “The Hub’s vision is that all children and young people in Nottingham have a rewarding and inspiring experience of making music with others, and our mission is to facilitate life enhancing and confidence-building experiences that equip children and young people with perseverance, self belief and a life-long love of music.

“Events like the Christmas in the City concerts both help to achieve this goal. It gives these young people the opportunities to show off everything they’ve learnt, and gives the people of Nottingham the chance to support the talented young people in our city’s schools. These concerts not only showcase their skills, but they help build the confidence of many of these young people.”

Councillor David Mellen, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services at the City Council, is also on the Board of Directors at the Nottingham Music Service charity, He said: “Giving children and young people the chance to participate in musical learning, no matter what their background is extremely important. We must find these future musical stars and give them all the support they will need.

“There could be a child out there who has never even imagined they would pick up an instrument and become a skilled musician. This is where the Nottingham Music Service and the Nottingham Music Hub offers children, young people, schools and groups across the City the chance to train, build confidence and improve their lives through music.”

There will be something for everyone at the Christmas in the City concerts from singing to percussion bands and orchestras.

On night one at the Albert Hall, music lovers can see performances from Area Bands South, Central and Sherwood, Intermediate Orchestra, World Music, the Primary School Choirs, Sing City Winners Emily & Amelia and Band Factory

On night two the Robin Hood Youth Orchestra will perform alongside the Area Bands North, East, West and P6P, the Primary School Choirs, Sing City Winner and Bloco Notto.

Both concerts are to raise money to help fund the Nottingham Music Service, but part of the money raised from the concert at the Royal Concert Hall will go to the local homeless charity – Framework.
