Wollaton-born actress Vicky McClure today became the latest local figure to be recognised by Nottingham’s tram network with a new tram named in her honour.
The BAFTA TV Award winning star is best known for her role as ‘Lol’ in Shane Meadows’ critically acclaimed film This Is England and its subsequent TV series. She has also appeared in the much lauded BBC2 drama Line of Duty and ITV’s hugely successful Broadchurch.
Vicky is also set to star in the BBC’s upcoming adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s novel The Secret Agent.
She said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been given the honour of having a tram named after me and to be in amongst some of the most illustrious names in Nottingham’s history.
“I’ve already become an avid user of the new tram system. Long may it reign and anyone on a late night Vicky McClure tram has my permission to start a sing song at any time!”
Jamie Swift, NET Marketing Manager, commented: “Vicky is a fantastic young actress whose performances have connected with millions across the country.
“Through her work on screen and off it, Vicky continues to be a terrific role model for many of the talented youngsters this city produces and we’re delighted to be naming a new tram after her.”
Councillor Jane Urquhart, with lead responsibility for NET at Nottingham City Council said, “Vicky’s award winning career is a true inspiration and shows that if you work hard to follow your dreams you can achieve great things. We are really proud that we are able to celebrate Vicky’s success by naming a Nottingham tram in her honour”.
