This New Year’s Eve, Nottingham will welcome 2019 on Old Market Square with a huge free street party and fireworks sponsored by local company Purico in association with Nottingham Care Village.
The Old Market Square event takes the place of the traditional event staged in previous years on the site of Nottingham Castle, which is now closed until 2020 as part of a National Lottery Funded major transformation.
The family-friendly event will see DJ sets from Capital – the UK’s no.1 hit music station – in front of the Council House from 10:30pm, featuring some of the biggest hits from 2018 to get the party started as the city prepares for the big midnight moment.
As the midnight countdown concludes and the bells of the Council House clock chime midnight, a 7-minute firework and pyrotechnic display will light up the skies around Old Market Square followed by a massed rendition of the traditional Auld Lang Syne.
Those who love ice skating will be able to skate one final time outdoors this year, as the Winter Wonderland ice skating rink remains open for the final sessions of the 2018 winter season, including a special session up to and including the midnight hour. These are by ticket only.
The Sur la Piste bar will house a full programme of live music including the house singers, Winter Belles. This will run until 10:30pm with other Winter Wonderland attractions also remaining open throughout the evening. These include the traditional market, ice bar and skating rink, the brand-new 30m toboggan slide, and Bar Altitude – the all-glass chalet, perched up high, offering panoramic views of the celebrating crowds below. Access to Sur la Piste and Bar Altitude is by table booking only. These can be reserved online as well as tickets for ice skating and Nottingham’s Ice Bar.
There will be food and drink options available in the square from 9.30 for those revellers without Sur la Piste or Bar Altitude reservations.
Bookings for skating and the bar areas can be made at: www.nottinghamwinterwonderland.co.uk and www.whatsonnottingham.com
As in previous years, fireworks and DJ set performances are free. Admission to the Old Market Square is un-ticketed but is limited to the event’s capacity. In the event of capacity being reached, access will only be granted in a one in, one out basis.
This event is one of the many ways to see-in 2019 in Nottingham whether enjoying the celebrations in many bars and restaurants of the city centre, or even friendly neighbourhood pub. While there is a limit to how many people are allowed in the Old Market Square, revellers will be able to view fireworks wherever they can see the Council House dome.
Cllr Dave Trimble: Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Localities said: “Everybody is welcome to join us in Old Market Square to see out the old year and welcome in the New Year which is shaping up to be another great one in the city. We are grateful once again to the Purico Group and Nottingham Care Village for their continued support of this event and look forward to presenting this year’s New Year celebrations in a new setting. The atmosphere will still be amazing and there will be plenty of fun and entertainment for all to enjoy.”
Mary McGowan, Director said; “On behalf of Purico Group and Nottingham Care Village, we are delighted to be sponsoring the New Year’s Eve Fireworks again this year. Over the years we have sponsored this event, it has drawn increasing crowds and has become a big attraction in the city’s calendar. We would like to wish everyone a very happy 2019.”
