British star, and the No. 2 seed, Johanna Konta will be first to hit centre court as the sun comes out for the Aegon Open Nottingham 2016. With final preparations complete and glorious weather forecast, alongside a raft of local talent on display, fans and players are set to enjoy an action packed first day at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

Konta, one of four Brits on show on the first day of main draw action, opens proceedings against American opponent Victoria Duval at 12noon, with top seed Karolina Pliskova next up on centre court again Anastasija Sevastova.

Victory for Czech star and World No. 19 Pliskova could set up a second round meeting with her twin sister Kristyna, who faces Anna Tatishvili third up on Court 1.

Hucknall’s Freya Christie, on her WTA tournament debut, will conclude the Centre Court schedule against Saisai Cheng of China, following No. 8 seed Christina McHale’s match against Poland’s Magda Linette.

Britain’s Tara Moore and Katie Boulter will also be on court for the final round of qualifying on Monday knowing a win will take them through to join the already strong contingent of local hopes in the first WTA-level grass court event ahead of The Championships, Wimbledon.

British tennis fans are set for more interest on Tuesday when, Heather Watson, Laura Robson, and Naomi Broady will play their first round matches.

In their second round of qualifying, Moore had to come from a set down to beat Russia’s Alla Kudryavtseva in three sets 4-6 6-0 6-3, while Boutler’s return to the circuit continued to gather momentum after she beat Ukraine’s Olga Savchuk in straight sets 7-5 7-6(5).

Moore will be first up on Court 1 at 11am, while Boulter is scheduled second on Court 2.

The first day of main draw action will see the tournament raising funds for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People. The LTA is donating 100% of ticket proceeds to the charity, with spectators asked to donate a minimum of £3 to watch world-class tennis.
