Ward’s recent display for Great Britain in their Davis Cup tie against the USA in Glasgow will be remembered for a stunning comeback against world No. 20 John Isner, which helped secure the tie for the home team. He will face a world class player field in the tournament as Nottingham welcomes back some of the best tennis players as they prepare for The Championships, Wimbledon.

The Aegon Open Nottingham will see two tournaments take place in June, the women’s WTA event taking place from 8-14 June 2015, and the men’s ATP event being staged from 22-28 June 2015. Both tournaments will be an integral part of the new British grass court season, which in 2015 will see a three week window between Roland Garros and Wimbledon for the very first time. The extended grass court season will enable some of the world’s very best players extra time to find their feet on grass and make the most of the very best grass-courts in the country.

Speaking on his announcement, James said: “I am really looking forward to returning to Nottingham this year for the Aegon Open Nottingham. It is a great venue with fantastic grass courts that I know well. I have played in the ATP Challenger event in previous years and I have always had strong support from the crowds. British players are well supported when we play at home venues and the incredible atmosphere at the Davis Cup tie in Glasgow against the USA shows the passion that is out there for tennis in this country. The crowd can make a real difference and I can’t wait to get out there again.”

The Aegon Open Nottingham (ATP) Tournament Director, Paul Hutchins, said: “We are delighted that James has chosen to play the Aegon Open Nottingham as part of his preparations for Wimbledon. It is great news that this tournament has a British player like him to get the home crowds excited for the return of top class tennis to the Nottingham Tennis Centre. James’ performance at the recent Davis Cup match against the USA was thrilling and I hope the crowds will come out and support him and the other world class players that we hope to announce soon.”

Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Nottingham City Council, said: “It’s fantastic news that the Aegon Open Nottingham has attracted two of the best British tennis players to compete, with Heather Watson choosing to play in the WTA tournament, and James Ward playing in the ATP.  People in Nottingham have a great opportunity this June to come down to the Nottingham Tennis Centre and enjoy world-class international tennis on their doorstep.”
