On Saturday 22 April 2017, Officer Cadets from the East Midlands Universities Air Squadron (EMUAS) will be taking part in a Freedom Parade in Nottingham City Centre. .
The Beeston-based flying Squadron was granted Freedom of the City by Nottingham City Council in 2011, In 2016 EMUAS celebrated its 75th anniversary and this year marks five years since being awarded the honour.
Up to 80 personnel will be on parade, including 60 members from EMUAS and the Pipes and Drums of RAF Waddington. Under the command of the Senior Student, Acting Pilot Officer Joshua Smullen, the parade will begin at 1000 hrs and march from St Mary’s Church to the Old Market Square.
The Officer Cadets will then be paraded in front of the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire Sir John Peace, The Lord Mayor of Nottingham Councillor Mohammed Saghir, the Sheriff of Nottingham Councillor Jackie Morris and Group Captain Andrew Dickens, Commandant Number 6 Flying Training School (6FTS).
Group Captain Dickens said it is an honour and a privilege for EMUAS to be able to exercise the Freedom of Nottingham and I know the students and I are looking forward to the experience.
Once in the Old Market Square, the Lord-Lieutenant will address the parade and, together with Lord Mayor and Commandant 6FTS, he will inspect the Squadron.
