Residents across Nottingham will soon be able to access free bulky waste collections, making it easier to dispose of large household items safely, responsibly and at no cost.

From 19 October 2026, every Nottingham household will be entitled to book two free bulky waste collection appointments per year, with up to six items collected at each appointment. Bookings will open on 19 October, with the first collections taking place from 26 October 2026.

The new service will help residents dispose of large items, including electrical items, that cannot be placed in their household bins, while supporting cleaner neighbourhoods and helping to reduce fly-tipping across the city.

Collections will be available for a wide range of household items, including furniture, mattresses, wardrobes, tables, sofas, armchairs and electrical appliances such as fridge freezers, televisions and tumble dryers. To comply with environmental regulations, upholstered furniture and electrical items may be collected separately to ensure they are processed safely and appropriately.

The service will also support the safe disposal of upholstered furniture containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), helping to prevent toxic chemicals from escaping into the environment, entering the food chain, and contaminating other recyclable waste

Councillor Sam Lux, Executive member for Environment and Sustainability said –

“Responsible disposal of bulky items has clear environmental benefits, helping to reduce waste, increase recovery of materials and keep our communities looking their best. This service will also ensure that items containing POPs are treated safely and correctly, protecting both people and the environment.”

Residents well be able to book their free bulky waste collections online from 19 October 2026. Bookings are made on a first come first serve basis, with a rolling four week booking window open. Full details on eligibility, accepted items and collection arrangements will be available on the Nottingham City Council bulky waste collection webpage.
