Up to £2.3 million will be spent in Nottingham on expanding early years entitlement provision for working families with children from 9 months of age and before and after school childcare for primary school age children.
Nottingham City Council formally accepted the Government funding at a meeting of its Executive Board on 17 September, which includes a capital grant of £554,499 for building work and a revenue grant up to £1.76 million in 2024/25 and 2025/26 for wraparound childcare provision.
The funding will enable working families in the city to access funded early years entitlements for children from 9 months until statutory school age and also provision for primary school aged children through the creation of additional childcare places under the wraparound childcare programme.
Councillor Cheryl Barnard, the Council’s Executive Member for Children, Young People and Schools, said: “This additional funding will mean more Nottingham families can access high quality early years provision for young children and also childcare for older primary age children.
“This not only gives children the best possible start in life but enables parents to return to work or take up employment or training, helping to boost their family income and support regeneration and economic growth in the city.”
