The Leader of the Conservative Group at Nottingham City Council Councillor Georgina Culley has died.

Councillor Culley, aged 65, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Wollaton on Saturday night. She is survived by her husband Ian. She had served the Wollaton West ward for over 25 years and became the leader of the opposition group in 2004. She was a member of various committees including the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, the Corporate Parenting Board and the Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee.

City Council Leader, Councillor Jon Collins, said: “I am saddened to hear of Georgina’s passing and extend my condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. She has been a councillor and leader of the opposition for many years and her determination and persistence in what has undoubtedly been a difficult role deserves recognition and respect.”

Acting Leader Cllr Andrew Rule said: “It is with huge regret and sadness that I learned of Cllr Culley’s sudden passing on Saturday evening. Georgina was a respected and valued colleague and had been a huge support to me during my time on the Council. My condolences to Ian and the rest of the family at this terribly sad time.”
