Nottingham City Council has announced which of its services will continue and which will be impacted by the National Lockdown starting on Thursday 5 November.
The Government announced a range of measures last week to help stem the spread of coronavirus, that were voted on by parliament yesterday and introduced today. These include staying at home except for specific purposes, avoiding meeting people you do not live with except for specific purposes and certain businesses and venues closing. The City Council has started to assess how the restrictions will affect its services, building and events.
Cllr David Mellen, Leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “It is deeply upsetting to find ourselves in the difficult situation again where we have to close or partially close many council services that we know our residents rely on.
“We have no other choice than to follow all the guidelines announced by the Government so we can help bring the virus back under control so we can look towards hopefully having a brighter December and festive period.
“We know what we need to do as a city to help each other throughout yet another difficult period: follow the restrictions, support each other as much as we can, and continue to help out elderly and vulnerable people in the city.
“We know this second lockdown will have a major impact on people’s lives but we came out of the first lockdown a stronger, more united city and we hope to do that again.”
Latest update on service, buildings and events affected
Full Closure:
- Nottingham Royal Concert Hall and Theatre Royal
- Nottingham events
- Leisure Centres and Tennis Centre
- Tourist Information Centre
- Golf Courses
- Shopmobility
- Ceremonies
Partial Closure:
- Markets (essential retail only remains)
- Libraries (some to close, others will keep some services running differently – for further information please visit https://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/libraries/coronavirus
- Museums and Galleries (grounds to open, cafes take away only)
- Community Centre (individually assessed)
- Day Centres (restricted services from all nine centres).
Any services not listed – for example, the council’s Household Waste and Recycling Centre – are planned to continue operating as normal.
Cllr Mellen continued: “We urge everyone in Nottingham to follow the restrictions and advice about hand washing thoroughly and regularly with soap for 20 seconds and staying at home if experiencing a fever or new, persistent cough. Please follow social distancing guidelines if you need to go out and wear a facial covering if you can.”
The Government paused the national Shielding programme in August. But there is guidance to support people who are clinically extremely vulnerable available at www.gov.uk/coronavirus
The guidance explains people should:
• Meet as few people as possible
• Avoid non-essential travel
• Reduce trips to shops
• Work from home where possible
