Nottinghamshire Pride – Saturday 27 July 11am – late
Thousands of people are expected to join this year’s Nottinghamshire Pride celebrations in the city on Saturday 27 July – the largest event of its kind in the East Midlands.
Over 8,000 people from Nottingham’s diverse population and visitors from all over the country are expected to fill the streets for the annual celebration that gives the LGBT+ community enormous visibility, a vibrant platform to educate people on LGBT+ issues and a safe place for LGBT+ people to meet a range of incredibly supportive organisations.
The event follows the country’s first permanent rainbows painted on Broad Street, as well as the Council House and Wollaton Hall being lit with rainbow colours, and Lord Byron – famously known for his poetry and bisexuality in the early 1800s – raising the rainbow flag at Newstead Abbey.
Following the City Council’s full motion on 8 July to reaffirm its commitment to the LGBT+ community and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, the city has shown an unprecedented amount of support in the run up to this year’s Pride event.
The Pride parade will start on the corner of Lister Gate in the city at 11am and finish on the ‘rainbow road’ in Broad Street.
The city centre will be decorated with over 100 rainbow flags, provided by local print suppliers Fast Graphics and John E Wright.
Cllr David Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture in the city, said: “Pride is always a wonderful celebration in our city and I think this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.
“It brings to a close a month in which the City Council has re-emphasised its support for the LGBT+ community – through our formal council motions, the lighting up of our historic buildings in rainbow colours, and the painting of our amazing ‘rainbow road’ which will provide the perfect ending point for our parade.
“Nottingham is a diverse city that celebrates equality, inclusivity and respect. We want all of our citizens to feel supported and are proud of our diverse LGBT+ residents.”
As soon as the parade comes to an end, the Sheriff of Nottingham will kick off the afternoon celebrations at 12pm with a speech on the main stage on Heathcoat Street.
There will be over 40 stalls along Heathcoat and Broad Street with opportunities to chat to local businesses, visit the free glitter make-up tent, learn about LGBT+ history, do a spot of shopping and find out more information about the essential services on offer to LGBT+ people across the city.
A packed entertainment programme will continue on the main stage up to 6pm, followed by a vigil and then a variety of after parties to choose from – some ending as late as 7am!
Stephen Jackson, a director of Nottingham Improvement District (BID) said: “We are pleased to be supporting Nottinghamshire Pride again this year. Events like this, that bring lots of people to the city, are welcome as they provide a boost in trade for many of our members, particularly those in the hospitality and retail sectors.”

Official after party venues
Propaganda. Local venue Propaganda will be having a PRIDE 2019 party from 1pm-7am, including an outdoor bar and DJs all day. They will be hosting a midnight performance by Livin’ Joy ‘Dreamer’ feat Luzahnn. Advanced wristbands are available at their bar.
The New Foresters, 12pm-6am. The New Foresters, Nottingham’s oldest gay bar, will be hosting a Nottingham Pride Party, Open midday till 6am, Disco, Food and 4 Beer Gardens. They’ve even got free gladiator and pillow fight inflatables if you fancy a go! Children are welcome until 5pm.
The Lord Roberts, 2pm-2am. The Lord Roberts have got the party going from 2pm-2am! Ales, Gins, and in true summer style they’re having a BBQ in their back garden, with food supplied by ‘Homemade Cafe’. DJs will keep the party going upstairs for the afternoon, and in the evening the party mo-ves downstairs where UNDRGRND Presents DSCO – A star studded future techno-colou-red disco dreamcoat of an all day shindig!
Broadway Café Bar Terrace, 12-9PM. Broadway Cafe Bar Terrace will showcase a range of DJ’s playing music to the crowd in Broad street from their mezzanine open window bar. DJ’s will play a mix of pop, disco and dance to entertain their crowds on the Broadway Terrace and Broad Street after the pride march. There will also be a comedy performance courtesy of local comedian and Nottingham celebrity Charity Shop Sue.
Enjoy live entertainment, information stalls, music and art up to 6.30pm
