Residents in Sherwood can now enjoy a newly refurbished library, as Sherwood Library officially reopened on Friday 17 April, marking a major milestone for the local community.
The reopening brings the much-loved library back into use following a significant redevelopment, restoring an important community space at the heart of Sherwood.
Councillor Neghat Khan, Leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “I’m incredibly excited that we’re finally reopening Sherwood Library. This is a proud and long-awaited moment for our community.
“We know how much this library means to local people, and it’s fantastic to see it brought back to life as a bright, modern and welcoming space.
“I’m really pleased we’ve been able to deliver on our commitment to reopen the library this spring. It’s been a complex project, and I’d like to thank everyone involved for their hard work in making this happen.
“I’m looking forward to welcoming residents back through the doors and seeing the community come together in this space once again.”
Opening day began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Leader alongside local schoolchildren, followed by the library opening to the public at 10am. The opening weekend is expected to attract high levels of interest from residents keen to explore the new facilities.
To celebrate the reopening, a programme of events for both families and adults has been organised. Children’s activities include owl sculpture workshops with Laura Mathews and performances from children’s music act Johnny and the Raindrops.
A limited number of tickets are also available for The Sherwood Social with Sofar Sounds, taking place on Friday 24 April from 7pm to 9.30pm. The event will feature live acoustic performances from three artists, revealed on the night in Sofar’s signature style. Library users can book tickets for £10 using the code SHERWOOD10.
The refurbished library also features a scarecrow exhibition inspired by well-known children’s characters, alongside thousands of new books available to browse and borrow.
Beyond the opening programme, Sherwood Library will host a regular schedule of community activities, including weekly Totstime sessions, reading groups and craft sessions. Totstime will run every Friday from 10.30–11am, offering stories, music and sensory play for under-fives.
The reopening also coincides with the launch of a new adult reading programme, Read, Return, Repeat, encouraging residents to rediscover reading and make regular use of their local library.
Residents are encouraged to visit the library and experience the new space for themselves.
